As you can see from the above link, Moonshine is on Mandy.com’s Film Market. I recieved an email from a fellow who directed “Shadow of Crime.” He mentioned Mandy.com as a successful resource for him. So we’re up. Looking for offers of around 50k from distributor. As many have noticed, vampire season is in.

Independent film finding its way out

This is the film’s director, Roger Ingraham. I’ve been holding onto Moonshine now for several years, waiting for a distribution scenario to present itself that would reward the film and the people who had worked on it. None has presented itself. In the meantime, I’ve also learned some things about distribution. I’d like to elucidate a little on what I’ve learned.

As an experiment while I was in NY, I hit the streets with 12 DVDs to try my hand at street salesman. In a relatively short period of time, I sold all 12, simply based on the cover of the film, what I told them, and myself.

Discovery: There is no external barrier to selling a Sundance film, despite the larger distributor’s wariness.

The 12 DVDs were greatly enjoyed. Here’s was my favorite email response from that one day on the streets:
“Being a horror junkie, I purchased your film in the hopes to see something fresh and new being produced in the genre and also because you seemed to be truly passionate about your work. After viewing your film now for the fourth time, I confess that Moonshine has far exceeded all expectations I had. Your work is exceptional; at the very least, a film which challenges convention. More importantly however, it is a visually stunning piece of cinematic art which truly altered my perspective of what a “horror” film can be.

My sincerest commendations!”

It isn’t for lack of want or interest that Moonshine hasn’t been seen. But a realistic distribution scenario and effort needs to become available.

Moonshine’s New York Premiere in Times Square – Oct. 24!

Our New York dream premiere is a reality. It’ll be taking place in Times Square on October 24th at 9:00 pm – as part of the ever-impressive From Here to Awesome showcase. I (Roger Ingraham, the director of Moonshine) as well as a good number of the cast will be attending, available for a hearty Q & A after the screening. Thanks so much to everyone who has supported the film. There will be a first-run of DVD’s available for sale at the screening.

The rest of the FHTA line-up will be screening as well, from the 22nd to the 24th. It’s an opportunity to catch these films with large and vibrant audiences.

FREE Screening in Stafford, CT – Oct 4.

On October 4rth, there will be a much-anticipated FREE screening of “Moonshine” in Stafford, CT as part of the From Here to Awesome Film Festival! Both the lead actress and director will be at the screening, signing T-shirts and answering questions after the film. Moonshine Is Taking The Journey – From Here to Awesome

This is Roger Ingraham, the director of Moonshine, commenting on the latest news:

In 2006, Moonshine was in official selection at the Sundance Film Festival. Now, Moonshine has been selected by audience vote to be one of the top 12 films in the distribution festival “From Here to Awesome.” This is a beautiful way for an independent charmer like Moonshine to reach its audience.

The creators of the festival are themselves true “indie” filmmakers – Arin Crumley (Four Eyed Monsters), Lance Weiler (Head Trama), and M. Dot Strange (We Are The Strange). So they understand the problem – and have begun to create the solution. Most festivals don’t even include the possibility of distribution – this festival is distribution.

As it stands, alot of courageous independent films hit the festival circuit, make the rounds – and then disappear quietly – hardly a gurgle – no theatrical screenings, no video deals, not even a DVD for sale online. From Here to Awesome’s top 12 roster go to select theatres, are sold on DVD, have deals with Netflix, and are offered On-Demand for download online.

It has only been 3 1/2 years since YouTube was first launched, and I can’t believe the speed at which it has changed the world – even the elections are already plugged in to Youtube. In the not-too-distant future, audiences will vote on any film they want to see. Then theaters and video stores will select their films based on local popular vote. Televisions will all be on-demand. Does it sound far away? 12 films are taking this exact same journey today. From Here to Awesome is a experimental step into the future of film. And Moonshine is proud to be a part of that.
